Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - * ALMOST PERFECT ...
LOVE THE SERIES, LOVE THE MUSIC OF THE SERIES. THIS SOUNDTRACK WOULD HAVE BEEN 5 STARS HAD THEY INCLUDED MORE MUSIC FROM THE SECOND SEASON. SPECIFICLY THIS HIPHOP TUNE ON DISC 2 THAT WAS BANGIN AND FOR ALL THE GANGSTER INNUENDO IN THIS COMEDY YOU WOULD THINK IT COULD REFLECT ON THE SOUNDTRACK. PROBABLY THE ONLY STRAIGHT HIPHOP IN EITHER SERIES AND IT WOULD HAVE BEEN COOL TO HEAR IT ON THIS SOUNDTRACK. WE SCOFF WHEN WE HEAR AFRICAN AMERICANS SAY THINGS LIKE "WE STILL HAVE A LONG WAY TO GO" THIS IS WHAT THEY MEAN. I FIND IT ODD THAT A SHOW THAT SEEMS TO HAVE NO LIMITS WOULD LIMIT THEIR SOUNDTRACK. MAYBE THE PRODUCERS THINK THEY ARE DOING US A FAVOR BY SPARING/SHELTERING US FROM THE "SCOURGE" THAT IS HIPHOP OR MAYBE THEY THINK THAT WE ARE NOT AS PROGRESSIVE IN OUR MUSIC BUYING AS WE ARE IN OUR SERIES WATCHING. IT IS PAINFULLY OBVIOUS THAT THE CREATOR OF THE SERIES AND THE CREATOR OF THIS CD ARE DIFFERENT PEOPLE. JUST A BLURB SORRY FOR THE RANT THE CD IS OTHERWISE AWESOME. I JUST REMEMBERED WHAT ABOUT THE "MILF WEED SONG" AN ORIGINAL BY SNOOP DOG(WHO APPEARED IN THE "MILF MONEY" EPISODE) THAT MAKES TWO HIPHOP SONGS COULD NOT ONE OF THESE SONG MAKE THE SOUNDTRACK?

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - * Loved it ...
Excellent collection of the weird and wonderful tunes and lyrics that accompany the series. Makes great travel music too.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - * LOVE LOVE LOVE this CD!!! ...
I have not purchased a CD in a VERY LONG TIME that I have listened to as much as this one! I don't become bored of it and many of the songs just stick in my head throughout the day! I'm in process of buying Jenny Owen Youngs CD from Amazon right now although there many great artists on here (yes, eclectic indeed!).

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - * Quirky and fun mix of tunes ...
When I played this I just got happy. What an eclectic mix of great songs. Not unlike the show.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - * Cool crazy tunes -no pruning required! ...
Geat CD filled with cool and crazy tunes you are unlikely to hear anywhere else. It lost a star for me for two reasons-I prefer the original version of "little boxes" and am not a great fan of cover versions, and secondly because there is one track I dislike enough that I skip over it every time-a strangely dicordant and jarring anomaly considering the other great music selected for this album. I own both WEEDS original soundtrack CD's and spin them endlessly!

On her eighth studio album, Damita Jo--the title lifted from her middle name--Janet Jackson teams up with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis once again on what is perhaps the most feverish album in her two decade long career. Whether she's taking the listener on a torrid excursion in the four song island suite, or boasting of her sexual prowess on "Sexhibition's" word games lyrics, where she tells fans "relax, it's just sex," the singer tries hard--maybe too hard--to establish herself as a sexual avatar with portfolio. But in "Strawberry Bounce," she seems more like a pole dancer in stilettos than a social revolutionary, as she catalogs the way she plans to make her inamorato lose control, and she just sounds silly on "Moist," which extols the female orgasm. Instead, the best moments on the album are when Jackson comes off as saucy and winsome instead of a heavy breather, like on the down-tempo "Thinkin' Bout My Ex," her collaboration with Babyface, which seems lifted right out of her autobiography, and on the athletic Prince clone "Just A Little While." The title track is Jackson's own version of J-Lo's "Jenny On the Block," and she sounds just as insincere as Lopez when she tried to convince us that she was just an ordinary neighborhood diva. Instead, Janet’s much more persuasive when she joins up with hip-hop savant Kanye West on "My Baby," pairing her breathy, little girl vocals to his sharp, focused rap. Then and only then does Damita Jo sound like love can actually trump sex. --Jaan Uhelszki
