John Coltrane and Johnny Hartman(more) »rank: 64287by: John Coltrane with Johnny Hartman
: :This is one of the three all-ballad albums that John Coltrane recorded in late 1962 and early 1963. Johnny Hartman was apparently Coltrane's suggestion, and his deep, dark voice meshes perfectly here with Coltrane's tenor. The material is well-chosen, including definitive readings of 'My One and Only Love' and 'Lush Life.' McCoy Tyner fills out the chords, augmenting the harmonies and keeping the tone of these ballads respectful but not overly sentimental. All the players get to the deep structure of the songs and are not afraid to play in the most essential and elegant manner. This is beautiful jazz. --Michael Monhart |

Harry Connick Jr. - Harry for the Holidays(more) »rank: 16560starring: Harry Connick Jr.
: :Harry for the Holidays is both a traditional and musically adventurous Christmas television special, shot in high definition and originally broadcast on NBC in 2003. The unusual yet beautiful setting is the historic interior of the Bowery Savings Building/Cipriani 42nd Street; one can see an occasional car flash by through windows behind Harry Connick Jr. and his Big Band. Connick's program includes holiday standards but his arrangements are novel, cutting against the melodiousness of the likes of 'Silver Bells' or 'Frosty the Snowman' with edgy strings, sizzling brass, and complex rhythms. 'Santa Claus Is Coming to Town' and 'The Happy Elf' swing like ... |

Return to Me: Music from the MGM Motion Picture Soundtrack(more) »rank: 4288from: RCA Victor
: :David Duchovny and Minnie Driver star in Bonnie Hunt's romantic comedy Return to Me, named after the Dean Martin standard that leads off this soundtrack. According to the liner notes, Hunt assembled these songs to reflect nostalgia for her own childhood, and, aside from the incongruous addition of Smokey Robinson and the Miracles' 'I Second That Emotion,' it's all orchestrated pop that recalls a far-removed age before rock 'n' roll. Several tunes were composed and orchestrated by the movie's music director, Nicholas Pike, who, with the help of singer Joey Gian, nearly re-creates the past. However, it's the campy good time of the ... |

Pictures(more) »rank: 13449by: Katie Melua
:Album Description:2007 album from the UK singer/songwriter, her third album overall. Equal parts Pop, Folk and Blues, Pictures builds upon Katie's successes as one of Britain's finest female artists and shows her experimenting and growing as a songwriter extraordinaire. 12 tracks including the first single 'If You Were A Sailboat'. Naive. :There is something innately British about Katie Melua’s appeal, her style reminiscent of former '60s UK legend Lulu, especially in songs that combine adult contemporary pop with a slight crooning style ('All In My Head,' 'If You Were A Sailboat'). Whatever her je-ne-sais-quality is, Melua’s popularity in Europe is massive; she has ... |

Nancy Wilson Christmas(more) »rank: 12958by: Nancy Wilson
: :Has Nancy Wilson ever made a public move in her 40-plus-year career that wasn't tasteful? Aside from a couple of small-print notices, purchasers would never know that Wilson intends to donate her royalties from her first full- length Christmas disc to the Pittsburgh-based Manchester Craftsmen's Guild, an arts and education center for lower-income residents. Christmas finds Wilson moving between quietly felt moods with astute shifts in arrangement size; her trio, the Dizzy Gillespie alumni orchestra, and a chamber group are among the varied settings. As a choice for a houseful of family on Christmas Eve, this could hardly be better. A seemingly unpromising ... |

Yes, the unrated edition of The Dukes of Hazzard has nudity... but no, it's not of Jessica Simpson, but topless sorority girls. There are also two sets--"PG-13" and "unrated"--of deleted scenes and bloopers. The four minutes of unrated deleted scenes (supplementing the 25 minutes of "PG-13" deleted scenes) include more sorority girls and a menage à trois for Johnny Knoxville . The five minutes of unrated bloopers (the same amount as the "PG-13" bloopers) feature a few more girls but mostly bad language. Featurettes discuss the Daisy Duke short shorts (and show how you can make your own), car stunts, and the making of the movie (narrated by a cast member of the original TV series). --David Horiuchi
