: :Originally released in 1962, this was tenor-saxophonist Sonny Rollins' first recording after ending a surprising 3-year retirement. It found Rollins sounding very similar to how he had played in 1959, although he would soon start investigating freer forms. The pianoless quartet features guitarist Jim Hall, bassist Bob Cranshaw and drummer Ben Riley. :Widely acknowledged as the most significant and accomplished tenor saxophonist in the world, Sonny Rollins's recording legacy is nothing short of extraordinary. Beginning as a sideman in the late-'40s, he worked with Charlie Parker, Fats Navarro, Bud Powell, Max Roach, Clifford Brown, Thelonious Monk, Art Blakey, and Miles Davis. Since ...

The KX-TGA270S from Panasonic is an add-on extension handset designed for use with KX-TG2700S, KX-TG2720S, KX-TG2730S, or KX-TG2740S Expandable Cordless Systems. By utilizing the 2.4 GHz frequency band, as well as Frequency Hopping Digital Spread Spectrum (FHSS) technology, the KX-TGA270S provides crisp, clear reception even at significant distance from the base.

An illuminated keypad makes dialing easy in the dark, while a headset jack gives you the option of hands-free operation. Four-way conferencing allows you to talk with multiple people, while a two-way intercom lets you communicate with family and friends near the other phone.

With call waiting, you won't miss any important calls, while Caller ID (with subscription to telephone company services) means you can avoid those calls you would rather miss. A great way to expand your current Panasonic phone system, the KX-TG2700S also features six selectable ring tones as well as a handset volume control. Panasonic also provides a one-year parts and labor warranty.

Wonderful Town is a terrifically fun musical, but do you really need this recording? The answer will be yes if you fall within one of these two categories: (a) You collect recordings of the show and must own them all or (b) you're a huge fan of Brooke Shields. The actress replaced Donna Murphy in the lead role of the 2003 Broadway revival, and did a creditable job bringing Ruth Sherwood to gawky life during her five-month run. Shields performs over the same instrumental tracks you can hear on the revival's prime recording. (Jennifer Hope Wills replaces Jennifer Westfeldt as Eileen Sherwood; the rest of the cast is unchanged.) From a purely vocal point of view, the switch wasn't an upgrade--Murphy is among Broadway's best stylists after all--though Shields is far from being an embarrassment. She may not have the technique, but her comic gusto is winning. Still, this CD remains for completists only. --Elisabeth Vincentelli
