Editorial Review:

Album Description:
2007 release from the Soul diva. A major player in the Neo-Soul armada that took both the Pop and R&B worlds by storm in the late-'90s/early-2000s, Jill Scott got her start touring with the likes of Erykah Badu and the Roots. With a background in both poetry and musical theater, Scott came at the genre from a fresh perspective, and her 2000 debut album made her a household name.

Amazon.com:
Before you peel the cellophane off The Real Thing: Words and Sounds, Vol. 3, check out the back cover photo. In it, Jill Scott sits slumped on a floor in a bathrobe and slippers with a notebook clutched to her chest. It's an image meant to tell you something about just how real these 15 songs keep it--no pretenses here, just an artist doling out bits of her soul--but it also accurately captures the diary-like vibe of the music. Though there's nothing in Jill Scott's catalog that lacks for intimacy, Vol. 3 puts honesty and introspection on lock. From the cool opening drums of 'Let It Be,' to the swollen soul of 'Hate on Me,' to the sexed-up 'Crown Royal'--this disc's entirely too brief best track, Scott weaves through the music like a woman who's taken her time contemplating what feelings ought to sound like. Not just mood-wise, but style-wise. The way-lyrical, late-night-sounding song, 'Epiphany,' hints at something a later track, 'Wanna be Loved,' lays out clearly: In addition to her spectacular singing, Scott's got the goods to seduce her fans as a rapper. She's the real thing, and she's also well-rounded. --Tammy La Gorce

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - * Wonderful ...
I could just kick myself. I've had this CD for nearly seven months and I'm just now getting around to listening to it. I haven't been feeling Jill Scott since her debut CD so I wasn't really expecting much-but WOW was I wrong. From the moment I hit play, I was grooving. Welcome back, Jill. You put your foot into this. Now I'm trying to make up for lost time and this CD remains on REPEAT. If you haven't bought or listen to this, you're definitely missing out. GREAT MUSIC. BUY THIS!!!!

FANTASTIC! Very sexy and provocative, just like the singer. Put this on, dim the lights and cuddle with the one you love!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - * Jill Scott is THE REAL THING!!! ...
If you don't have this album yet, I really don't know what you are waiting for. You are truely missing out on a musical experience of a lifetime. I am one of those people who gets boared with cd's after I have heard them so many times, but this is a true classic. I did not take this cd out of my car's cd player for 3 months. I listened to it every day I got in the car. Thanks to Amazon, you can listen to the samples and those alone are only introductions to the truely magnificant music Jill has made on this album. She let her heart and soul go and it shows on every song. I love Jill and you will love this album!!!

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - * Jill is simply Jill ...
As always Jill Scott has delivered a scrumptous, delightful and insightful look into her world. For me, she is the modern day Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughn, Minnie Riperton and so many other stallworths of the industry. We should remind ourselves as consumers, our relationships with artists evolve over time and in particular, my appreciation for her delivery has been more than satisfactory. I wish her and the entire Hidden Beach family much oontinued success in the future. Thanks for simply being Jill Scott.

What can be said about this release from Jill Scott??

soulful, musically inspring, sexy...yes and so many other words. From start to finish Words and Sounds Vol. 3 is another excellent look to her life and she writes/sings them with such skill that you know its coming from the heart. A couple songs that i love are "Hate on Me" and "Wanna Be Loved". Also of note with purchasing this cd on Itunes i got a Live version of "Hate On Me"..which i love as much as the original.

Excellent cd throughout and she continues to impress in all aspects. It is a worthy addition to your cd collection fan or not.

Haunting and harrowing, as beautiful as it is disturbing, The English Patient tells the story of the entanglement of four damaged lives in an Italian monastery as World War II ends. The exhausted nurse, Hana; the maimed thief, Caravaggio; the wary sapper, Kip: each is haunted by the riddle of the English patient, the nameless, burn victim who lies in an upstairs room and whose memories of passion, betrayal, and rescue illuminate this book like flashes of heat lightning. In lyrical prose informed by a poetic consciousness, Michael Ondaatje weaves these characters together, pulls them tight, then unravels the threads with unsettling acumen.

A book that binds readers of great literature, The English Patient garnered the Booker Prize for author Ondaatje. The poet and novelist has also written In the Skin of a Lion, Coming Through Slaughter and The Collected Works of Billy the Kid; two collections of poems, The Cinnamon Peeler and There's a Trick with a Knife I'm Learning to Do; and a memoir, Running in the Family.
