Rating: - * Great music, terrible marketing ... This disc is packed with some of the greatest hits of the big band era (great set list) but the collection's title ("The Only Big Band CD You'll Ever Need") is terribly insulting. Why assume that, after hearing killer-diller tunes like these, that modern listeners wouldn't want to dig deeper and discover more music in this rich, rewarding vein? Reducing a decade-plus of astonishing musicianship to a cultural footnote unworthy of meaningful exploration is more than just insulting (to the artists of their era and the listeners in ours) it's downright depressing. If BMG thinks so little of the music they own, why put it out at all? Lease it to someone who cares. (Axton) Rating: - * Good Music! ... If you have a bunch of swing music or none at all this is a wonderful c.d. to own. It's a selection of the "favorites" of this genre of music. If you are looking for one c.d. to buy, for a friend who loves swing music or to initiate yourself to swing music, this is a good one. Rating: - * i remember ... I love the songs and the speed with which I recevied it. Thank you Rating: - * The Only Big Band CD You'll Ever Need ... It's a great cd to listen to while my students are doing math. Rating: - * Great Introduction and Great Toe-Tapping Listening ... Someone who knows the era better than I will have to tell how well-chosen the tracks are, but I've really enjoyed listening to this. The recording quality is indeed low but you need to regard that as akin to the tool marks in fine leather; they are proof of its authenticity. What do you expect for a track recorded in 1927? It's not going to be DDD. If you've ever heard some old tune that you wanted to hear again, and never knew its name, there's a good chance you'll find it on this CD |
