Amazon.com:
The Heroin Diaries (the soundtrack to Nikki Sixx's addiction memoir of the same name) sounds nothing like the music that catapulted Nikki Sixx into the limelight (and, presumably, the dank and dark underground of addiction) with Mötley Crüe more than 20 years ago. And the music suffers for it. Perhaps Sixx didn't want to romanticize addiction and ill behavior by unleashing a series of rockers that would send fists high in the air and let the spirit, at least for a moment, soar while the listener struggled to better understand the seductive lure of dependence and decadence. (If anyone cares that much--this is rock & roll, after all, and not Oprah.) Instead, Sixx dresses the songs in the trappings of contemporary pop so that 'Tomorrow,' 'Life is Beautiful' and 'Accidents Can Happen' sound like lite imitations of the lesser bands that have captured the public's imagination in the wake of the Crüe's inexplicable absence from the recording studio. ('Permission' may even be Sixx's first stab at getting airplay on CMT.) The true rockers, far too slender in number, are half-realized and pallid; the lyrics are overly diaristic (yes) and fail to live up to Sixx's vintage street sophistication ('Dancing on Glass' and 'Kickstart My Heart'). The Heroin Diaries comes off more like an affectless pity party than a walk on the wild side. --Jedd Beaudoin

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - * #1 CD in my collection! ...
The Heroin Diaries soundtrack is the best damn cd I've heard in years! I first learned of Sixx AM at the Crue Fest this summer. Great in concert and the cd takes me back to the live show! I recommend, recommend, recommend it to anyone who likes to rock. Terrific lyrics - really listen to the words - it relates to anyone (even if you are not or never were an addict). A must have for your collection.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - * Creative Effort ...
To begin with, I think the fellow that wrote the official Amazon review for this album would probably have to click the NO bottom at the top of this "Create Your Review" page to the question of Are you over 13? On the contrary, this effort is MUCH more mature and developed than the fist pumping hard rock that Mr Amazon must love. The songs exhibit better song writing, and although the verse can be a little heavy, it gets your attention. Of course an album about herioin addiction SHOULD have heavy lyrics don't you think?. I would advise anyone who is a little tired of the same ole-same ole to pick this one up and give a listen.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - * Powerful! ...
This album is FANTASTIC!! Both the music and the lyrics are POWERFUL!! I hope the band continues because I want to hear more of what they have to say and play. Buy this CD and crank it up!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - * Amazing ...
The critic obviously has no idea what he is talking about or what the music is about. Nikki Sixx has told a most amazing story the has the ability to help so many people suffering from the same types of addiction. The fact that he was able to do it musically is absolutely brilliant.
In the future the critic should not do reviews on subjects he knows absolutely nothing about. Unless you have dealt with an addiction or someone trying to cope with an addiction, some of this may be too deep. But for any one who has, it is right on the money and beautifully done.
I guess the critic could possibly be in denial of his own addiction, or anyone else that did not understand the depth of the story, which in turn this would rub them the wrong way.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - * BEAUTIFUL ...
I can't stop listening to this. Probably the most beautiful music since Siamese Dream. Yes, it's all about death and living, and it is incredible. Thank you Nikki and company for giving us lines like "I don't want my mom to know I never loved my life," and "it's only one day, it's not your whole life, you havn't thrown everything away."

With the help of producer/songwriters William Orbit, Mark Ronson, Jerry Meehan, Joey Negro and Soul Mekanik (plus guests as diverse as The Pet Shop Boys and Lily Allen), Robbie Williams has achieved a most radical transformation. Gone is the slick, pop-rogue of yesteryear: in his place is a new Robbie that raps, embraces club beats and (mostly) favours personal indulgence over cheesy, universal pop. Recent single "Rudebox", all electronic riddims and slack-rap vocal delivery, was just the start of this transition. The rest of Rudebox completes the remarkable overhaul with several eclectic covers - from Manu Chau's "Bongo Bong" and Lewis Taylor's underground classic "Lovelight," to subversive takes on The Human League ("Louise"), My Robot Friend ("We're The Pet Shop Boys") and Stephen Duffy ("Kiss Me") – and tracks such as "Keep On", "Good Doctor" and "Dickhead", which confirm his quite bewildering quest to becoming a comedic, Staffs-accented version of The Streets.

Slightly more serious are his attempts at what he describes as 'wonky pop'. Songs like "Viva Life On Mars", his odd ode to Madonna ("She's Madonna"), the dark "The Actor" and catchy club-hit-in-waiting "Never Touch That Switch" all feature innovative production and interesting arrangements. Toward the end, we get "The 80s" and "The 90s", two more amusing "rap"-tracks that cover the singer's adolescence and his Take That years respectively; these underline the nostalgic, end-of-an-era feel of the LP. Audaciously eclectic and admirably upfront, Rudebox is overtly a form of personal catharsis. Not all the experiments work, but they're better than you might think, and now they're off his chest it'll be interesting to see where the new Robbie Williams heads to next.--Paul Sullivan

Greatest Hits chronicles the remarkable journey of Mr Robert Williams, from being the "fat dancer from Take That" (c. Noel Gallagher) to the multi-million pound jewel in EMI’s crown. Assembled in chronological order, all the hits are here, except for his initial solo outing "Freedom", and it’s interesting to see how his sound evolves from wannabe Britpop buffoon on the sub-Oasis pubrock of "Old Before I Die" to the subtle captivating melodies of "Feel" and "Come Undone". There are so many great tracks that it’s impossible to list them all, but highlights have to be the barnstorming "Let Me Entertain You", the bouncy, floor-filling "Rock DJ" and the song that madeth the man, "Angels". The two latest additions to his canon--"Radio" and "Misunderstood" clearly have one eye on the past, the other on the future – with the latter an instant classic Robbie ballad from the Bridget Jones 2 soundtrack and the former a foray into the world of electro pop that sounds like a warped Human League track from the 1980s. This has to be Robbie’s forte, his ability to make great pop records that always sound fresh and full of energy. Every home should have a copy of this album, and chances are, by the end of 2004, most of them will. -- Melanie Wilkin
