Item Description:
Do you learn better by watching rather than reading? Here is a chance to see how to transport your baby from screaming into serenity...in minutes. Watch as, step-by-step, Dr. Karp teaches new parent how to switch on their baby's powerful calming reflex. English and Spanish In 'The Happiest Baby' Dr. Karp reveals a treasure sought by new parents for centuries... the 'calming reflex' (the automatic 'off-switch? for any baby?s crying). No wonder thousands of Los Angeles parents, from working moms to superstars like Madonna and Michelle Pfeiffer have turned to Dr. Karp to learn his secrets for making babies happy. Elisabeth Bing author and co-founder of Lamaze International 'The Happiest Baby on the Block is fun, fascinating and convincing. I highly recommend it to all new parents.' (Running time - 38 minutes.) The DVD also contains 3 bonus chapters: 1) Dr. Karp answers 25 questions from parents about calming babies and helping them sleep. 2) A Spanish dubbed audio track of the entire 38 minute teaching video. 3) Three tracks of calming white-noise sound that is an extraordinary mix of womb sounds and a newly designed pulsation that babies love (even though it sounds a little odd to the ears of an adult) Each track can be played individually, played in sequence or repeated for hours to gently guide your baby into a deep level of relaxation. This video is designed in NTSC not PAL or SECAM. It is meant for use in most countries in the Western Hemisphere as well as Japan, South Korea, Greenland, Guam, Samoa, and the Philippines.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - * Good guide ...
I enjoyed what I learned from this dvd, but remember it is a guide..not the bible. The tips/tricks are very helpful, but each baby is unique and this may not work all the time for all babies. For instance, my daughter really doesn't like to be swaddled unless she's very tired. Overall, it's well worth the investment.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - * Must have for first-time parents ...
Every parents should be required to watch this video. I recently attended Dr. Karp's seminar for American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP)in Boston in Oct. His research findings on methods to calm the fussiest babies work like magic. I'm not a parent yet but I'm giving copies to my first-time parent friends.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - * INCREDIBLE!!!! ...
A friend had recommended this video before our baby had arrived. We watched it and it looked unbelievable. We have been using Dr. Karp's techniques for 3 weeks now with a newborn, and they really work. We refer to him as the "Baby Whisperer." I would recommend this DVD (or his book) to anyone!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - * Life Saver ...
Every new parent should have this. We had no idea how to stop our new baby from screaming. I wish we'd had this on our first night home from the hospital instead of waiting until day 6. Although some of these tips are similar to things our moms and grandmas did, Dr. Karp has perfected the techniques and explained what to do, step by step. I'm buying this for every new parent I know from now on.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - * A MUST HAVE it WORKS and saves your sanity ...
It works!!! It is truly a very good book and DVD, the book having more info than the DVD.It has allowed my daughter to sleep through the night using the techniques, some are forgotten things, like swaddling, and some are new twists on the old ways that worked then and work nOW. One friend had been swaddling but she was always "tied " to her baby, having totry to appease him...the day she got a swing(3 weeks ago) she is still rejoicing and celebrating the freedom to watch her son swing to the CD while swaddled and sleeping happily as she fINALLY can make meals and clean house for more than 5minutes at a time and both babies are happier and perkier...they are getting more deep sleep and so is MOM !!!This is a loving soothing method
offered.
So, if you follow the 5 "S" in the dvd and book you will see a real change in your baby's contentment.I do reccomend the both highly.
This does not get into medical issues per se as that is whole different story if a baby has a medical issue a doctor needs to be seen. If not, these techniques work and all are happier and healthier for it.
All of the new moms in my area are buying and sharing the DVD and book.
The DVD is more my style since I like to see what is actually done rather than read and look at illustrations.

Cast Away is a good movie that wants to be much better. While director Robert Zemeckis's earlier film Contact achieved a kind of mainstream spiritual significance, Cast Away falls just short of that goal. That may explain why the film's most emotionally powerful scene involves the loss of an inanimate object, even as it presents a heart-rending dilemma in its very human final act.

It's three movies in one, beginning when punctuality-obsessed Federal Express systems engineer Chuck Noland (Tom Hanks) departs on Christmas Eve to escort an ill-fated flight of FedEx packages. Following a mid-Pacific plane crash, movie number two chronicles Chuck's four-year survival on a remote island, totally alone save for a Wilson volleyball (aptly named "Wilson") that becomes Chuck's closest "friend." Movie number three leads up to Chuck's rescue and an awkward encounter with his ex-girlfriend Kelly (Helen Hunt, in a thankless role), for whom Chuck has seemingly risen from the grave.

It's fascinating to witness Chuck's emerging survival skills, and Hanks's remarkable physical transformation is matched by his finely tuned performance. With slow, rhythmic camera moves and brilliant use of sound, Zemeckis wisely avoids the postcard prettiness of The Black Stallion and The Blue Lagoon to emphasize the harshness of Chuck's ascetic solitude, and this stylistic restraint allows Cast Away to resonate more than one might expect. Even the final scene--which feels like a crowd-pleasing compromise--offers hope without shoving it down our throats. You may not feel the emotional rush that you're meant to feel, but Cast Away remains a respectable effort. --Jeff Shannon

Apparently there's nothing in Kabbalah that disallows sweaty, head-spinningly good dance music, because here comes a flame-haired Madonna hawking a dozen songs' worth: Confessions on a Dance Floor darts seamlessly from Madge's early days, when she emerged as the genre's enduring darling, through the political, kiddie, and acoustic pap that drove a wedge between her and early adopters of the fingerless glove look. Songs like the pop-leaning "Jump" and first single "Hung Up"--an adrenaline drip on high that, like many of these tracks, will inspire mild shame among those who've thrilled to the much thinner disco-dusted outpourings of younger divas recently--represent both a return to form and an unmistakable march into the future. "Get Together" is a sonic freak-out in the best sense; "Push" traffics in gut-level futuristic trance; and "Forbidden Love" loops in '80s blips and bleeps for a follow-me-into-the-past effect that's both neo and retro. For all the image-affirming innovations here, though, these confessions find Madonna framed in her share of reflective moments too. "Was it all worth it/How did I earn it?" she asks on "How High," a song featuring vocoder. "Nobody's perfect/I guess I deserve it," comes the answer. A later lyrical inquiry is left for the listener to judge: "Does this get any better?" Madonna wants to know. But that opens the door to a dizzying proposition. Few of us would have guessed, after all, that it got this good. --Tammy La Gorce
