Editorial Review:

Amazon.com:
Sacred Spirit: Chants and Dances of the Native Americans is an 11-song journey bridging the gap between ancient and contemporary history, tradition and modern instrumentation. While it is impossible to fully realize such scope on a single disc, Sacred Spirit makes the choice to represent all indigenous Americans rather than become mired in the potentially divisive bog of politics and tribal allegiance. All but two melodies are entirely traditional, bringing together flute, drums, and vocals with a cello and keyboard wash. This marriage is most effective on the lovely bowing of 'The Cradlesong,' and the looping electro-acoustic beauty of 'Wishes of Happiness & Prosperity.' Elsewhere, synthetic elements are overwhelming, detracting from a song's essence, as with the spongy nervosity of 'Elevation.' An uneven offering, Sacred Spirit doesn't quite live up to its promise. A better choice is Earthbeat's Tribal Waters. --Paige La Grone

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - * not what I was expecting but still enjoyable ...
I suppose I had been expecting a CD of chants and dances -- just raw. Instead, the songs have a new age-type production. But they're nicely done, and I'm happy with the purchase. Still looking for something a little closer to the real thing, though.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - * Pleasant and peaceful! ...
I heard the Sacred Spirit II in Yellowstone and loved it! I bought that first. Then I got this one.
The music is calming and pleasant. I like the II more than this one though.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - * Fabulous music!!!!!!!!!!!!! ...
One of my most favorite CDs of all time. I wore out my old CD, so bought a new one! Thjis music "gets you" on a gut level, somewhere deep inside. It is at once calming yet primordial awakening. evn my infant grandson would calm down when I played it for him.
Wonderful!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - * Review for Sacred Spirits ...
I ordered this CD because of two of the chants. But when I listened to it I loved all the songs. If this one doesn't move your sopirit nothing will.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - * Sacred Spirit CD - original ...
I like "Sacred Spirit 2" better than this original CD. If I could do it over again, I would only purchase the second volume and not this first one. The music and chants of the second CD are more soothing, dramatic and better integrated than in the original.

Beyonce's London fans go crazy when the Destiny's Child beauty, on her first solo international tour, descends to a massive stage while suspended, upside down, from a wire. After a delicate landing, the star embarks on a set of recent hits immersed in complicated arrangements, including the Arabic sound of "Baby Boy" and "Naughty Girl," the chunky, hypnotic funk of "Hip Hop Star," and Beyonce: Live at Wembley's best performance, the powerful "Work It Out," in which the diva is at her clearest, jazziest, and most soulful. Not everything works. The bottom falls out of "Gift from Virgo," "Be with You" is forgettable, and Beyonce's stage patter needs polish. But a Destiny's Child medley accompanied by only a DJ is innovative and fun, "Summertime" proves a breezy dance number, and "Crazy in Love" is bolstered by what sounds like the old Stax horns. A CD featuring a few remixes is included with the DVD. --Tom Keogh
