: :Had rock & roll never happened, the Everly Brothers would probably have become famous as straight-ahead country artists in the tradition of such sibling acts as the Blue Sky Boys and the Louvin Brothers. Once Elvis, Carl Perkins, and crew hit, however, the Everlys joined the budding rockabilly ranks in 1957 and became not only huge stars, but the most influential two-part harmony team of all time. This sterling 20-track collection features all their early hits, from 'Bye Bye Love,' 'Wake Up Little Suzie,' 'Bird Dog,' and 'Devoted to You' (all written by the great Boudleaux Bryant) to Roy Orbison's 'Claudette' and their ...

: :The Everly Brothers were rock & roll's first true genre hoppers, applying the shuffle of R&B to the streamlined Tin Pan Alley-via-Nashville tunes of Felice and Boudleaux Bryant, sung by two inimitable Appalachian high, lonesome voices that conveyed an emotional depth rare in teenage boys. For once, all the sides recorded during the first three years of the Everlys' career are presented on one thoroughly annotated collection, along with a handful of alternate takes and demos. The duo's most popular chart-topping hits from that era are included, but the true gems of the disc are the album tracks. Often accompanied by little more ...

: :The lonesome two-part hill harmonies of the Louvin Brothers and Blue Sky Boys were slicked up just a bit and taken to the sock hop by the Everly Brothers. Don and Phil repeatedly scored on the pop, country, and R&B charts from the time they emerged in 1957 with 'Bye Bye Love' until the Beatles (great admirers of the Everlys) changed the rules of rock a handful of years later. All-Time Original Hits serves up 16 chart favorites, the latest dating from 1962. The likes of 'Wake Up Little Susie,' 'All I Have to Do Is Dream,' 'Bird Dog,' and 'Cathy's Clown'--No. 1 ...

: :Released in 1958 at the height of their initial success, the Everly Brothers' second album abandons the rootsy rock & roll sound of hits like 'Wake Up Little Susie' and 'Bye Bye Love' in favor of the sort of traditional Appalachian ballads Phil and Don heard and played while growing up in Kentucky. Not surprisingly, the brothers' close-harmony singing style works perfectly with songs like 'Down in the Willow Garden,' 'Barbara Allen,' and 'Roving Gambler.' While there are no real 'hits' here, Songs Our Daddy Taught Us is a solid record full of heartfelt performances--only the most stonyhearted listener could fail to be ...

This 44-minute musical Christmas movie finds Pooh, Tigger, Darby, and the rest of everyone's favorite characters from the Hundred Acre Wood enjoying a busy Christmas Eve filled with Christmas preparations and dreams about what they hope to receive from Santa. When Roo and Lumpy discover a fancy red bag in the snow and then stumble upon a young reindeer named Holly caught in a thicket, they find out that the bag they've found is Santa's magical toy sack and that without it, Santa may have to cancel Christmas. When Holly is unable to remember which direction leads home, Roo and Lumpy sound the super sleuth siren and the whole gang sets off for the North Pole to return Santa's bag. Using their knowledge of the North Star to guide them, the hopeful group makes their way toward the North Pole, but finds the road difficult and full of danger. Can the group make it to Santa in time to save Christmas by working together? Will their individual Christmas wishes ever come true? Bonus features include two episodes about friendship and teamwork ("Symphony for Rabbit" and "Tigger Goes Snowflakey") and the "Hundred Acre Wood Downhill Game" in which players pretend to ski down a hill and then interactively match presents with their intended recipients. (Ages 2 and older) --Tami Horiuchi

Pooh Bear and his pals in the Hundred Acre Wood celebrate Christmas and New Year's Eve in a pair of adventures folded into this 65-minute made-for-video feature. In the first, the silly old bear plays Saint Nick to his buddies ("I always thought he'd be taller") after failing to get an errant wish list off to Santa, while identity crisis strikes the gang in the second half. Piglet inherits Tigger's hop and jumps like a pogo stick, and Eeyore (dressed in Pooh's shirt) becomes a happy-go-lucky honey lover. Welcome to The Twilight Zone according to Winnie the Pooh. There's not much A.A. Milne in this TV-style holiday special, but it's a bouncy little production that should entertain the wee ones with its warm fuzzies, good company, slapstick energy, and life lessons. --Sean Axmaker
