Amazon.com:
If you thrill to the soaring operatic voices of The Three Tenors (and imagine every Christmas comes with its own orchestral majesty), Il Divo has made this disc for you. The four GQ-handsome male singers were handpicked by American Idol's Simon Cowell for what seems to be their ability to sing opera and classical music with the hint of a pop sensibility. Their Christmas Collection features 10 standards (although the last time Santa looked, he wasn't quite sure 'Over the Rainbow' and 'The Lord's Prayer' were part of the Christmas canon). Still, it' hard not to imagine these emotionally stirring renditions as part and parcel of the reverential treatment the four finely sculpted voices bring to more exact seasonal fare such as 'O Holy Night,' 'Ave Maria,' 'Panis Angelicus' and even 'White Christmas.' Dave Arch's predictable choral and orchestral arrangements are aimed right at the sweet spot where sophisticated church choir music and traditional classical music meet, with few surprises other than the dash of Irish folk music that colors 'When A Child Is Born.' In the end, for people who have never heard of Cowell and his cohosts (would Paula Abdul really have picked the tenor guy for this group?!), this collection will prove just as rewarding for them as the best-selling Idol records are for fans of the TV stars. --Martin Keller

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - * Beautiful Christmas Music ...
The Christmas Collection by Il Divo is a collection of the most popular Christmas songs all sung in perfect harmony, simply beautiful and moving!

My favorites were "O Holy Night", "White Christmas" and "Silent Night". Their beautiful vocals will instantly put you in a joyful mood this Holiday Season!

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - * A CHRISTMAS RAINBOW? ...
I have never been disappointed with the sound of Il Divo. And their renditions of these Christmas songs is absolutely beautiful. But ... "Over the Rainbow"??? There are only 10 songs on this CD to begin with. You mean they could not come up with one more Christmas song to include here instead of "Over the Rainbow"? A little miffed at that, so I gave this magnificent CD 4 stars instead of 5.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - * Not a good seller! ...
I have contacted this seller twice since ordering with no reply. The CD didn't come so I guess I can't review it. I can however review the seller: poor. This has never happened to me thru Amazon so guess how I'm feeling???

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - * Christmas faves ...
I'm in love with these young men's voices! Il Divo will be playing in my house every Christmas from now on.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - * WONDERFUL! ...
This CD remains in my car and is played year-round -- WONDERFUL, goosebump-provoking voices, and very complementary harmonizing and blending. (I've never been a fan of the song, "Somewhere Over the Rainbow," and, despite other reviewers' explanations, I still don't think it belongs in a Christmas collection -- but I HIGHLY recommend this CD in general, as ALL of the songs are performed beautifully)!

Prior to the release of this recording, my all-time favorite version of "Oh Holy Night" was sung by Pavarotti -- but the Il Divo version is also absolutely breathtaking!

This CD was my first exposure to Il Divo (I know -- it seems unbelievable, in light of their popularity), but it has inspired me to purchase more of their CD's (I prefer the songs which they sing in English, since comprehension of the lyrics certainly stirs the emotions to a greater degree -- "Every Time I Look at You" is one of my favorites), and I am now going to order one of their DVD's, so I can actually SEE them perform (I rarely watch TV, so this will be a "first" for me, too). I am also going to order copies of this CD to give to friends next Christmas, and I'm hoping that Il Divo will release more Christmas collections in the future.

I've read the reviews of those who have posted negative comments, accusing the producers and promoters of Il Divo of "crass commercialism," but I am VERY THANKFUL to Simon Cowell, et al, for having brought these VERY TALENTED AND DIGNIFIED GENTLEMEN together -- and for having provided them the opportunity to share their musical gifts with all of us. BRAVO! -- SUCH a breath of fresh air, under the label of "popular music." One can only hope that this trend continues.

With the help of producer/songwriters William Orbit, Mark Ronson, Jerry Meehan, Joey Negro and Soul Mekanik (plus guests as diverse as The Pet Shop Boys and Lily Allen), Robbie Williams has achieved a most radical transformation. Gone is the slick, pop-rogue of yesteryear: in his place is a new Robbie that raps, embraces club beats and (mostly) favours personal indulgence over cheesy, universal pop. Recent single "Rudebox", all electronic riddims and slack-rap vocal delivery, was just the start of this transition. The rest of Rudebox completes the remarkable overhaul with several eclectic covers - from Manu Chau's "Bongo Bong" and Lewis Taylor's underground classic "Lovelight," to subversive takes on The Human League ("Louise"), My Robot Friend ("We're The Pet Shop Boys") and Stephen Duffy ("Kiss Me") – and tracks such as "Keep On", "Good Doctor" and "Dickhead", which confirm his quite bewildering quest to becoming a comedic, Staffs-accented version of The Streets.

Slightly more serious are his attempts at what he describes as 'wonky pop'. Songs like "Viva Life On Mars", his odd ode to Madonna ("She's Madonna"), the dark "The Actor" and catchy club-hit-in-waiting "Never Touch That Switch" all feature innovative production and interesting arrangements. Toward the end, we get "The 80s" and "The 90s", two more amusing "rap"-tracks that cover the singer's adolescence and his Take That years respectively; these underline the nostalgic, end-of-an-era feel of the LP. Audaciously eclectic and admirably upfront, Rudebox is overtly a form of personal catharsis. Not all the experiments work, but they're better than you might think, and now they're off his chest it'll be interesting to see where the new Robbie Williams heads to next.--Paul Sullivan

Greatest Hits chronicles the remarkable journey of Mr Robert Williams, from being the "fat dancer from Take That" (c. Noel Gallagher) to the multi-million pound jewel in EMI’s crown. Assembled in chronological order, all the hits are here, except for his initial solo outing "Freedom", and it’s interesting to see how his sound evolves from wannabe Britpop buffoon on the sub-Oasis pubrock of "Old Before I Die" to the subtle captivating melodies of "Feel" and "Come Undone". There are so many great tracks that it’s impossible to list them all, but highlights have to be the barnstorming "Let Me Entertain You", the bouncy, floor-filling "Rock DJ" and the song that madeth the man, "Angels". The two latest additions to his canon--"Radio" and "Misunderstood" clearly have one eye on the past, the other on the future – with the latter an instant classic Robbie ballad from the Bridget Jones 2 soundtrack and the former a foray into the world of electro pop that sounds like a warped Human League track from the 1980s. This has to be Robbie’s forte, his ability to make great pop records that always sound fresh and full of energy. Every home should have a copy of this album, and chances are, by the end of 2004, most of them will. -- Melanie Wilkin
