Sex And The City: Music From The HBO Series(more) »rank: 16649from: Home Box Office (HBO)
: :The musical soundtrack for Sex and the City is every bit as romantic and glitzy as you might expect from the racy HBO TV series. Soulful grooves and slinky, seductive pop tunes run the gamut from the 1970s disco of Moloko's 'The Time Is Now,' on which falsetto vocals and lush strings underline the track, to the old-time R&B feel of Joan Osborne's 'Righteous Love.' Nearly everyone on board is in a sentimental mood. Country star Trisha Yearwood delivers the piano torch ballad 'For Only You,' while Aimee Mann contributes 'Calling It Quits,' a literate shuffle in the Elvis Costello vein. The Dust ... |

Rescue Me(more) »rank: 7716by: Various Artists
: :Denis Leary's firefighter series, Rescue Me, is characterized by its delicate balance of brawn and sentiment. This CD, which collects tunes that have appeared in the first three seasons, reflects that balance, careening from the full-on rock & roll of the Von Bondies (their 'C'mon C'mon' is the show's theme) and the Subways ('Oh Yeah') to the pensive, rootsy vibe of Ray Lamontagne ('All the Wild Horses') and the Devlins ('Love Is Blindness'). In his informative liner notes, Leary (who coproduces and cowrites the show in addition to starring in it) explains how he and his crew pick the songs they use. He ... |

Roswell (Original Television Soundtrack)(more) »rank: 77093by: Zero, Travis
: :This CD could've been titled Roswell: The Love Songs, what with almost every track's cargo of starry eyes, head-over-heels flips, and vows of eternal understanding. Its appeal to sensitive types is all but guaranteed by the presence of Dido's theme song 'Here with Me' (in two versions, one a 'Chillin' with the Family' mix that Andrew Lloyd Webber fans will appreciate) and quiet alt-rock faves Coldplay and Travis. Two recent albums underheard in the U.S. are represented, Long Distance from New York popsters Ivy (a remixed 'Edge of the Ocean') and Free All Angels from Irish stars Ash ('Shining Light'); those cuts, happily, ... |

:Album Details:Australian Version Includes Bonus Tracks of Chayanne and Tom Jones. The Ultimate Ally Mcbeal Collection also Includes Nine Vonda Solo Tracks, Barry White, Al Green, Tina Turner, plus Vonda Duets with Robert Downey Jr, Sting and Anastasia. :On this third installment of the Ally McBeal soundtracks series, featured performer Vonda Shepard delivers another solid collection of emotive blues- and country-inflected power ballads. The surprises here are the three tracks sung by the TV show's guest thespian Robert Downey Jr. If this soundtrack was intended to be a star vehicle, it's a jalopy. Downey's contrived rasp, hardened vocals, and awkward phrasing fail to ... |

Pokemon 2.B.A. Master(more) »rank: 15761by: Various Artists
: :From the Flashdance-like opener, 'Pokémon Theme,' to the closer, 'You Can Do It (If You Really Try),' 2.B.A. Master is high-energy fare. This CD sports an over-the-top flavor drawn from video-game-styled electronic blips, disco danceability, and the hollow tripped-out beats of theme-park musicals, all of which makes this super hot stuff for the Pokémon generation. The 13 tunes here are spread between action narrative ('What Kind of Pokémon Are You?,' 'Together Forever'), scene-setting devices ('Viridian City'), and character theme songs for our hero Ash, his Pokémon Pickachu, and his pal Misty, as well as rival trainers, Team Rocket. Where the NBA Dynasty series (the other initial entry is the slightly meatier Los Angeles Lakers: The Complete History) outdoes Ultimate Jordan is in the six playoff games--one for each year--as they were originally broadcast, minus halftime and commercials. Having the nearly complete game (usually running 90-100 minutes, from the TV introductions to post-game interviews) means you can skip straight to John Paxson's clutch basket or what was expected to be the final shot of Jordan's career. Or you can savor each game in its entirety, all the better to appreciate the artistry of Jordan in his three-pointer barrage against Portland or his "flu game" against Utah. You can see other great players too, of course, including Jordan's teammates--Scottie Pippen, Horace Grant, Dennis Rodman--and those opponents unfortunate enough to face the Bulls--Clyde Drexler, Charles Barkley, John Stockton, Karl Malone, and others. Because these are all NBA Finals games, you won't see Jordan's shot over Craig Ehlo or his 63-point coming-out party against Boston, but the 1990s Chicago Bulls were a team for the ages, and merely having their games--some of them all-time classics--available for home viewing is a major milestone in archived sports. --David Horiuchi

While last-minute heroics tend to be the standard by which we define excellence, there are many other moments that have left an indelible impression, many of them highlighted here. The video clips fall into 10 categories: Dunks, Alley-oops, Assists, Steals, Blocks, Teamwork, the Clutch Shot, Moves, Hustle, and Buzzer-Beaters. At the beginning of each section is a brief introduction. Before showing the top 10 dunks of all time, for example, we learn about the evolution of the dunk--from the first slam to the man who could fly, Michael Jordan--and we hear background commentary from NBA legends such as Magic Johnson, Charles Barkley, Dr. J, and Bill Russell. This video recalls familiar moments of NBA lore that you will want to own for countless repeat viewings. --Jeremy Storey
