Editorial Review:

Amazon.com:
Diversity is more than just a buzzword for Donnie McClurkin. As shown by his massive success both inside and outside the U.S., the right reverend from Long Island embraces many stylistic approaches (and languages) as he delivers his brand of gospel. It's never more evident than in Psalms, Hymns & Spiritual Songs, a McClurkin double-disc live worship celebration. Opening with Robin Mark's 'Days of Elijah' and McClurkin's own 'I Will Sing,' a praise-and-worship motif sets the stage for later similar tracks like Michael W. Smith's 'Agnus Dei' and the medley 'Draw Me Close/I Am Thine Oh Lord.' Backed by a 40-piece orchestra and a powerhouse choir, McClurkin closes the opening disc strongly in tandem with the legendary Richard Smallwood on the classic 'Total Praise.' The second disc is dedicated more to traditional gospel with tracks like 'I Love To Praise Him' and 'Jesus Medley.' McClurkin livens up the fare with the 'Language' medley, singing in English, Japanese, Russian, and Spanish, ending the string with Joann Rosario as they duet on 'Saciame Senor Yo Se Que Estas Aqui.' You shouldn't miss the bonus cut here as well with McClurkin and Kirk Franklin teaming up for a slick and pleasing cover of the 70's soul classic 'Ooh Ooh Child.' The offering is generous on Psalms, Hymns & Spiritual Songs and Pastor McClurkin holds nothing back in this fire-and-ice worship celebration. --Michael Lyttle

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - * WOW!! ...
Donnie McClurkin is one of my favorites and he's awesome! I love to worship and praise God and listening to him just does something to me, he's awesome and I would love to see him in concert.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - * praiseworthy ...
I knew his name, but not his music. I followed the lead of some earlier reviewers, and oh what an excellent CD! It is my favorite worship CD--so beautiful and moving, with impressive production and musical talent. (I feel like I've been under a rock not to have known about Donnie McClurkin's music.) This pastor is so humble as he shares his gift. The product includes two full-length CDs. Both are well done with an assortment of worship music. One medley takes me back to distant childhood memories of a great grandmother's baptist church, which I love. Also included are inspiring international worship songs. One of my favorite praise songs is "Only You are Holy." It tells the truth and gives me goose bumps.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - * Fabulous ...
I really enjoy the Donnie McClurkin cd. I was all I expected it to be. I also appreciate Amazon for getting the cd to me in a timely matter. Thanks Amazon. I will always do business with you.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - * ultimate worship ...
What a wonderful, spiritually uplifting cd! This cd was better than I anticipated. I would highly recommend this to anyone who feels like the world sometimes is overwhelming them with its cares and burdens. It's not God's will for us to be beat up by life. Take a moment to listen to this cd and get refreshed in His presence!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - * This album is golden ...
Donnie McClurkin's voice is a blessed vehicle that immediately transports the listener to a place of total praise and worship. This album contains traditional as well as contemporary songs, yet through the timbre and power of McClurkin's voice and God's amazing anointing on him, McClurkin is able to transform those songs and deliver the most worshipful and powerful anthems.

I listen to this album over and over in my car and whether it's the repetitive chant "There's no God like Jehovah" in the song "Days of Elijah" or "Agnus Dei", "Great and Mighty" "Total Praise", "Ooh Child", or the oldies in the "Blood Medley", I soon have my passengers singing and worshipping along. Whenever I play this album, my friends always go out to purchase a copy. Is there a greater testimony? If I had to take only one album from my music collection, this would have to be it.

McClurkin is clearly musically gifted because his style and delivery with the accompaniment of his choir is soul-stirring. My hands go up in praise. His genius in singing to people of different cultures and languages gives him worldclass appeal. He reaches out to the global stage in a very respectful manner through language and style and leads his diverse audience into a time of worship.

This album was not recommended to me. Rather I happened to see it in the store and purchased it after having heard his "Live in London" album. I have not been dissapointed but instead I've been richly blessed and I thank God for Donnie McClurkin that he has used his talent of song and music. This album is a must buy!! Seriously.

It's a measure of the ongoing popularity of Karen and Richard Carpenter that the 2002 release of this video collection in DVD format comes nearly 20 years after Karen's death. The duo's heyday mostly preceded the MTV age, so this 15-song, 55-minute anthology is a bit of a visual hodgepodge, composed of still photos, footage from TV shows and concerts, promo clips, fleeting attempts at conceptual videos, and other weirdness (film of Carpenters albums being pressed on the assembly line? Hey, whatever). You'll see an array of bad haircuts and outfits and a whole lot of lip-syncing, but in the end, it's the music that counts. And the Carpenters' signature sound, with its brilliant arrangements, its lush harmonies, and Karen's exquisite alto voice, was easy-listening pop at its finest. If nothing else, Carpenters: Gold offers another chance to hear that music in all its glory. --Sam Graham

With a gentle tug at the heartstrings, Evelyn tells the true story of an imperfect father whose devotion brought much-needed change to rigid Irish law. It's a labor of love for star and coproducer Pierce Brosnan, who brings just the right touch of Everyman charm to his role as Desmond Doyle, a struggling Dublin tradesman, father of three, and chronic pub-crawler whose wife abandons their family the day after Christmas, 1953. Desmond's a loving father who's boyishly irresponsible; Irish law dictates the removal of his children to stern Catholic orphanages, and his battle for custody is aided by two lawyers (Stephen Rea, Aidan Quinn) who seize this opportunity to revolutionize the courts. With straightforward, unobtrusive style, director Bruce Beresford draws fine performances from Brosnan, Julianna Margulies (as a barmaid who inspires Desmond's sobriety), and especially young Sophie Vavasseur in the title role as Desmond's bright, determined daughter. Sentimental without being saccharine, Evelyn is simple, well made, and bursting with genuine Irish spirit. --Jeff Shannon

Few would accuse Fantasia of a reluctance to abide by the wisdom that what you've got, you should flaunt, and the vocal gusto she slathers over her full-length debut gets partial credit for earning--and keeping--your attention. To a greater extent, though, the high-wattage help heaped over the Idol 3 champ and Patti LaBelle-sound-alike makes the disc dazzle. In addition to pitch-ins from Missy Elliott, who produced and co-wrote three tracks and busts out a two-snaps-up rhyme on "Selfish (I Want U 2 Myself)," Jazze Pha duets on the ultra-mod "Don't Act Right" and Jermaine Dupri wrote and produced the smolderer "Got Me Waiting." Surprisingly, though, it's not those tracks or even the Idol-propelled cover of the Gershwins' "Summertime" that will stick with listeners most. Instead, first single "Truth Is," a sweet, old-school R&B lament directed toward a lost love, and "Baby Mama," a spirited shout-out to hard-working single mothers, snare standout status with their from-the-gut authenticity. Keeping it real is what won Fantasia the hearts of millions on TV, and despite Free Yourself's likable slickness, it convinces that--hot commodity or no--she's not about to forget it. -Tammy La Gorce
