Rating: - * Amazing album! Fun for kids and parents! ... Brilliant. The magic of this album, like all Justin Roberts' albums, is its unique ability to captivate and educate young children, while simultaneously charming parents - a gift previously reserved only for the likes of Dr. Seuss and Shel Silverstein. I'm the father of a newborn and 2 1/2 year old who knows every word to every song, and regularly requests to view his videos as well (which can be found on his website or on YouTube). I've been a big Justin Roberts fan since 1991, where I first heard Justin and Liam as classmates at Kenyon College in Ohio. They were brilliant pop musicians as members of their college band Pimentos For Gus, where Justin dipped his toe in writing children's songs with the original version of Giraffe Nightingale. Since then I've been to see his children's shows in San Francisco and Boston, most of which were well before I had kids. Parents, I can't stress this enough - this is just great music that you'll want to listen to even when your kids aren't around. And since kids lock on to music and want to hear their favorite song over and over (and over and over) again, why not have it be your favorite song too??? Congrats Justin and Liam, and THANK YOU!!! Rating: - * Buy it now - you won't regret it!! ... AWESOME CD! Catchy lyrics...great music...and most importantly, parents won't want to bang their head against the wall when listening to it. Rating: - * Happy toddler, grateful parent ... I was slow to pick up Justin's latest release after previewing tracks on iTunes. With his previous 3 albums on heavy rotation in our toddler occupied household it just didn't seem like the "Pop Fly" album could stand-up or make a difference. I was wrong. We picked this up at one of his concerts in early August and I doubt we have gone a day without playing it. Lucky for my wife and I it's a solid work from beginning to end. It's got the catchy anthems (Pop Fly, Stay-at-Home Dad) that you usually get as well as the more serious, lump-in-the-throat inducing ones (Giant-sized Butterflies). This album seems to be an honest musical improvement, as well. Justin's genre-bending humorous songs could often come off as near-parody (an don't get me wrong I love Taking Off My Training Wheels on MELTDOWN!), but on POP FLY is a song like "Henrietta's Hair": a legitimately great (and funny) country/folk kids' composition. I expect it'll be bounced around as a cover for years to come. I consider myself very fortunate to be a parent in an age of such great kids oriented music. Rating: - * Better and better with every release. ... I'm so glad I have kids so I had a reason to buy my first Justin Roberts CD (Yellow Bus)--and they're a good excuse to keep buying every single release he puts out (though I would anyway). Flexible, versatile songwriting--joyful musicianship--accessible lyrics that are clever but not self-consciously showy--great production values--I just can't say enough good things about his entire discography. That being said, this is our FAVORITE JR effort--fresh and buoyant, tender, encouraging and practical, and polished but not slick. There's not a single song on the disc that we skip past, and more often we end up repeating songs 2 or 3 times before moving on to the next (I could listen to The Backyard Super Kid a dozen times at a stretch--the drumming is KICKING.) Simply wonderful for tall and short alike. This is the gift we'll be giving at every birthday party all year long. Rating: - * WE LOVE JUSTIN!!!!!!!!!!!!! ... They just get better and better! Not only wonderful for the kids but the adults love it also. Thanks again for another great album. Opps I dated myself by saying album..... |
