Rating: - * it's really been a gas.... ... ranks right up there with live At Leeds as a best ever live release. Marriott sings with an over the top demented passion while overheated Marshalls happily distort the blues and R&B into an almost mettallic kick in the pants. This was the top dog back in the 70's...and it holds up just as well today...an absolute classic. Frampton should be ashamed of leaving this band...$$$ aint everything.... Rating: - * 'Umble Pie Meisterwerk? ... Back in the early days of the seventies I was a CSNY[collectively and individually] fan with my main foci on Neil Young. In high school you get wrapped in musical values and prejudices and just plain ignorance. That perpetrates forward. I remembered vaguely how strange Eat It was. When I inadvertly stumbled into it on Amazon.com I decided to marry it with Rockin' At The Fillmore. I was summarily impressed with the reviews. I'm not a Peter Frampton fan(that is why this confession comes grudgingly), Rockin' At The Fillmore belongs right up there with the other "classic" live albums of the seventies. It took me many years to get here(owned ABB At Fillmore East, Live At Leeds, and Yessongs in the seventies). This CD presents a different twist on the truly majestic live concert recording. It's the ambience, the songs they chose to cover, and the guitar interactions between Frampton and Marriot anchored by the solid rhythm bass/drums. The deep grooves are here and the subtle embroidization are evident. These guys kick butt! Rating: - * As good as everyone says -- Heavy F-ing Soul and English Blues ... Ranks with the best live rock albums of all time, for sure. They were great, and the time in which they performed allowed for this sort of greatness. Everything you need to know about the direction of rock beyond 1973 is contained in the fact that Frampton left this lot to become an ice-cream-pants-wearing teen idol singing songs like "Baby I Love Your Way." Yes, he made a lot more money and got a lot more of everything that comes with it, and I actually like some of what he did by hisself, but Humble Pie was a better band. There is so much soul in this playing, especially Mr. Marriott. They just get out there and testify, it's the real thing, none of this pretend crap. I find myself wishing there was more recorded material out there from these shows. I can't believe this is all there was that was worth a listen. Rating: - * Without Peer ... Humble Pie Performance Rockin' The Fillmore is the first best-ever live album to come out of the double lp live albums of the seventies. This album is pure rock and roll ecstacy and is without peer. Bob Seger's Silver Bullet Band album sounds like a bunch of pansys next to this masterpiece. Peter Frampton's Frampton Comes Alive would never have happened had it not been for Rockin' the Fillmore, on which he played a vital role. This is rock and roll at its best. Powerful guitar, powerful singing, and a rock solid and powerful band. Rating: - * Yeah, Well you gonna know ... Buy this cd. Great live Rock & Roll from a great band. Another great live album from the 70's. Steve Marriott was the man. |
