Rating: - * Thank heavens I listened to this one first ... I really loved this album. She has a fabulous voice and some very clever lyrics. On the strength of this one, I bought her first album and hated it! Nothing catchy in it. After fast forwarding through one song about a girl descending into drugs, into and fast forwarded through one about a little girl drowning, into and ejected on one about how she's so depressed she hasn't left the house for days...It made me feel like not leaving the house or getting onto drugs or drowning. So buy this album, but only buy her first if you like angst. Rating: - * Terrific Young Talent ... I don't usually go out and rave about younger singers since I'm more in the anne murray, bruce cockburn, emmylou harris, bob dylan, joni mitchell generation. But I have to tell you, Missy has got it head and shoulders over any younger singer today. What will she thrill us with when she starts writing more and more, and rips our hearts out with another whole album of "Where I Stoods"? If I could give this CD six stars I would. This is worth the investment, and since you can download her MP3's, I recommend this album first. Wow! Rating: - * Wonderful songs ... What can one say about Missy other than that she is fabulous? Having had the pleasure of seeing her perform in a small restaurant with only a piano and a 100 spectators, I can say that the songs do not require anything other than her voice. The production on this album doubtless adds to the songs, although it is slightly different to her first album. But not to worry, there are still several numbers which feature the piano quite strongly. I personally love the fact that she sings with her true accent, as opposed to faking an American accent as so many pop singers do. It adds to the truth in the music. There is no pretense. What you see is what you get. Favourite tracks: Where I stood, Steer, Sugarcane Rating: - * What a talent! ... After being mesmerized by seeing Missy live with Ben Folds, I have started to fall for her music. She is quite a talent with Piano, Guitar and what a voice! Rating: - * well-rounded disc ... If I were a few decades younger I would have just downloaded Where I Stand from iTunes. Instead, I took a gamble and bought the whole CD. I was pleased to hear that all of the tracks are as interesting as the single. Okay to leave in the CD player for the whole hour commute. Sort of Indigo Girls meet Alanis with a fresher feel. |
