The United States of America(more) »rank: 29191by: The United States of America
:Album Description:Fueled by the avant-garde sonic ammo of keyboardist/composer Joe Byrd and the haunting vocals of Dorothy Moskowitz, the United States Of America found a way to permanently hard-wire space-age electronic music to the heart of rock and roll on their highly desirable, self-titled 1968 debut. Byrd’s kaleidoscopic musical excursions and Gordon Marron’s searing violin orbit around the icy vocals of Moskowitz, who—with a passing resemblance to early Jefferson Airplane belter Signe Anderson—remains the group’s center, steady as a rock. This heady mind-trip is reissued with the participation of both Byrd and Moskowitz, sports 10 amazing bonus cuts, comprehensively fascinating liner notes by ... |

Psycho: The Complete Original Motion Picture Score(more) »rank: 18745from: Varese Sarabande
: :Much has been made of composer Bernard Herrmann's choice to use only razor-sharp, slashing strings for his score to Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho. And heaven knows it works like a dream (or a nightmare), the music feeling as edgy and colorless as the noir-ish black-and-white photography. But as noticeably effective as the knife-screeching violins are in the famous shower scene (followed by those deadly blows from the basses and cellos), they work just as powerfully--though perhaps not as noticeably--all throughout the picture. Herrmann evokes dread and tension with just a few notes, or captures Janet Leigh's flighty panic in pizzicato as she hits the ... |

Transitions: Soothing Music for Crying Infants(Transitions Music)(more) »rank: 67612by: Various Artists
: :Developed under the guidance of physician Fred Schwartz, the Transitions recordings serve both to enhance the miracle of childbirth and to aid infant sleep. Looking to reduce the stress of parents and infant children, musicians Joe and Burt Wolff worked with Dr. Schwartz to combine digital samples of actual womb sounds, barely discernable female vocals, and the soft wash of other atmospheric sounds. Recommended by childbirth educators and infant-development specialists for its relaxing effect, Transitions has been clinically proven to stimulate the blood oxygen levels of premature infants in critical care. For weary parents on a midnight walkabout to quiet agitated babies, it's ... |

DVD features
Yes, the unrated edition of The Dukes of Hazzard has nudity... but no, it's not of Jessica Simpson, but topless sorority girls. There are also two sets--"PG-13" and "unrated"--of deleted scenes and bloopers. The four minutes of unrated deleted scenes (supplementing the 25 minutes of "PG-13" deleted scenes) include more sorority girls and a menage à trois for Johnny Knoxville . The five minutes of unrated bloopers (the same amount as the "PG-13" bloopers) feature a few more girls but mostly bad language. Featurettes discuss the Daisy Duke short shorts (and show how you can make your own), car stunts, and the making of the movie (narrated by a cast member of the original TV series). --David Horiuchi
