My Way(more) »rank: 45662by: Frank Sinatra
: :As the '60s drew to a close, Sinatra became increasingly amenable to recording songs from the contemporary pop and rock canon. Whether he was responding to commercial pressures, or just trying to prove that he could still be hip in the Age of Aquarius, remains the subject of much debate; in any case, My Way is probably the best of his late-'60s pop efforts. For one thing, it includes the title track, a veritable Sinatra classic; for another, it contains impressive stabs at Ray Charles's 'Hallelujah, I Love Her So,' The Beatles' 'Yesterday,' and Jacques Brel's 'If You Go Away' (the Chairman fares ... |

The Concert Sinatra(more) »rank: 42000by: Frank Sinatra
: :This misleadingly titled 1963 collaboration with Nelson Riddle is not a live album, but rather a collection of eight numbers (half of them Rodgers and Hammerstein compositions) from popular stage musicals. It's not exactly the swinging Sinatra of myth and legend, but it does make for a stunning musical experience; the Chairman is in great voice, and he scales the explosive orchestral peaks of Riddle's arrangements with the confidence of a mountain climber on methedrine. His versions of 'Ol' Man River' and 'Soliloquy' are big improvements over his Columbia-era attempts, and 'You'll Never Walk Alone,' 'My Heart Stood Still,' and 'Lost in the ... |

Strangers in the Night(more) »rank: 65585by: Frank Sinatra
: :Although Frank Sinatra had often expressed dislike for the smash title hit on this 1966 album, it is best known for providing some of the last tracks that the singer and his legendary arranger, Nelson Riddle, produced together. Some memorable tracks include 'On a Clear Day You Can See Forever,' 'The Most Beautiful Girl in the World,' and 'You're Driving Me Crazy.' The CD is a straight, no-frills reissue of the original vinyl release. --Stephen M.H. Braitman |

Days of Wine and Roses, Moon River and Other Academy Award Winners(more) »rank: 13316by: Frank Sinatra
: :Frank Sinatra and conductor/arranger Nelson Riddle teamed up in 1964 to record this collection of Oscar-winning songs from the previous three decades. While hardly groundbreaking, the results are extremely enjoyable. 'Swinging On a Star' sounds as if it were written specifically for Sinatra, while 'Days of Wine and Roses,' 'Moon River,' 'It Might as Well Be Spring,' and 'Secret Love' are also well worth the price of admission. Though it probably isn't the place to start your Sinatra collection, the album will certainly make a swell soundtrack for your next cocktail party. --Dan Epstein |

Sinatra-Basie(more) »rank: 43986by: Frank Sinatra
: :The first of three albums that Frank Sinatra recorded with swing legend Count Basie, Sinatra-Basie is also the best. Sinatra's voice doesn't sound in great shape, but he pushes himself throughout to keep up with the jazzy twists and turns of Basie's band; the resulting tension makes for a thrilling listening experience, especially for those who think of Sinatra as more of a saloon balladeer than a jazz singer. 'Learnin' the Blues,' 'I Only Have Eyes for You' and '(Love Is) the Tender Trap' are the highlights of the set, but all ten of the tracks are winners. --Dan Epstein |

Sinatra 80th: Live in Concert(more) »rank: 14871by: Frank Sinatra
: :Compared to the class act that was Capitol's Sinatra 80th--All the Best, this haphazardly sequenced collection of live performances is disappointing in the extreme. Though obviously culled from several different concerts (dating at least as far back as 1974), the disc's packaging omits specific recording information, trying to pass itself off instead as a recent document of a complete Sinatra concert. Sinatra acquits himself admirably on all 14 of the live numbers, even though his range changes rather noticeably from cut to cut. Sinatra deserves a definitive compilation of his best live performances, and this simply isn't it. Still, for those of you ... |

Nice 'n' Easy(more) »rank: 15556by: Frank Sinatra
:Album Description:24 karat gold disc! New Mini-LP-Style Packaging! Five Stars on All Music Guide. Mastered from the Original 2-Track Analog Master Tapes. Charted at No. 1 on Billboard's Pop Music Chart in 1960. 1960 Grammy Nominee for Album of the Year. Sinatra's eighth collaboration with conductor/arranger Nelson Riddle. Nice 'N' Easy is a hybrid album, mixing breezy mid-tempo numbers with some not-so-dreary ballads. Released between the usual alternating pattern of either all ballads or all swingin' albums, Frank again tapped Riddle to conduct and arrange the twelve pieces of perfection that make up this release. Definitive versions consist of: That Old Feeling, How ... |
