Is It News(more) »rank: 10711by: Doyle Bramhall
: :This may be the best roadhouse-rock-and-blues-guitar album a drummer's ever made. But then again, this 40-year-veteran Austin songwriter's always had an affinity for guitarists. His first band, the Chessmen, featured Jimmie Vaughan and opened for Jimi Hendrix. Bramhall cowrote nine tunes with Jimmie's brother Stevie Ray. And his own son, Doyle II, is a six-string star who tours and records with Eric Clapton. So when the disc opens with charging chords and tremolo riffs atop a big Bo Diddley beat and closes with a prickly Texas Stratocaster serenade from Bramhall's fellow former Chessman, that's not surprising. Producer C.C. Adcock, Dylan guitarist Denny Freeman, ... |

Wish I Was in Heaven Sitting Down(more) »rank: 23725by: R.L. Burnside
: 's Best of 2000:R.L. Burnside's background is pure Mississippi Delta--he was raised in the hill country and musically trained by quintessential bluesmen like Fred McDowell. But this record, like all his work, is infused with an adventurous spirit, haunted by eerie bits of electronic music and dark, despondent subject matter. The combination sounds irresistibly fresh, and scary as a hellhound on your trail. --Matthew Cooke Amazon.com:Imagine a man sitting on a weathered front porch in a rocking chair, telling stories as the sun goes down. As first, they seem like the old-time tales any grandfather might tell, but as the sun sets, they ... |

The Ultimate Collection(more) »rank: 19389by: B.B. King
: :B.B. King's music has been anthologized and put in box sets many times, but this is the first single-disc collection that truly spans the American icon's career. It starts with his breakthrough 1951 No. 1 R&B hit 'Three O'Clock Blues' and ends, chronologically, with 2000's 'Ten Long Years' from his platinum-selling, pop-chart-topping smash collaboration with Eric Clapton, Riding with the King. In between there are 19 numbers that trace King's creative peaks (1969's 'The Thrill is Gone,' 1960's 'Rock Me Baby') and valleys (1973's disco-inspired 'I Like to Live the Love'). And they all tell the story of his growth as a performer. ... |

Deliveries After Dark(more) »rank: 63789by: Popa Chubby
: :The ever prolific Popa Chubby returns with a new CD of hard-hitting rock 'n' roll. This follows his two disc tribute to Jimi Hendrix, Electric Chubbyland. Says Popa, 'I found myself on this record mostly thanks to playing the Hendrix stuff. People young, old, rich, poorthey just want to rock.'The disc is balls-out Blues/Rock played with reckless abandon, no apologies, visceral and heavy, with a few surprises thrown in - such as the theme from 'The Godfather' and the spacy and evocative 'Woman In My Bed Dub,' a reggae tune as thick with smoke as a Kingston club.'I have gotten back to ... |

Chasing the Sun(more) »rank: 15752by: Indigenous
: :Though the name 'Indigenous' reflects frontman Mato Nanji's heritage as a member of the Nakota tribe, on Chasing the Sun he sounds more like a member of the tribe of Stevie Ray Vaughan soundalikes. Not that this is necessarily a problem when the songs are so strong, the singing so soulful, and the guitar playing so striking. (Even Vaughan was initially typecast as an imitator of Jimi Hendrix, whose influence permeates the guitar tone on this album's 'I'll Be Waiting' and 'Leaving.') Whereas Indigenous earlier featured Nanji fronting a family band, these days he pretty much is Indigenous (though sidemen still include his ... |

True to Yourself(more) »rank: 66386by: Albert Cummings
:Album Description:A whiz-kid carpenter turned masterful blues rock guitarist, Albert’s blistering live shows -including a string of 19 electrifying performances opening for BB King - have generated a serious buzz. His astonishing virtuosity and passionate delivery mark him as a major new talent. Albert’s Blind Pig debut was recorded by producer extraordinaire Jim Gaines (Stevie Ray, Santana) and rocks hard from start to finish. :Blowing through 10 songs like a six-string hurricane, Albert Cummings arrives as perhaps the first serious contender to the blues-rock guitar throne vacated by the death of Stevie Ray Vaughan. His playing crackles with energy, spinning off stuttering bends ... |

DVD features
Yes, the unrated edition of The Dukes of Hazzard has nudity... but no, it's not of Jessica Simpson, but topless sorority girls. There are also two sets--"PG-13" and "unrated"--of deleted scenes and bloopers. The four minutes of unrated deleted scenes (supplementing the 25 minutes of "PG-13" deleted scenes) include more sorority girls and a menage à trois for Johnny Knoxville . The five minutes of unrated bloopers (the same amount as the "PG-13" bloopers) feature a few more girls but mostly bad language. Featurettes discuss the Daisy Duke short shorts (and show how you can make your own), car stunts, and the making of the movie (narrated by a cast member of the original TV series). --David Horiuchi
