The Greatest(more) »rank: 2865by: Cat Power

It contains all-original songs written by Chan Marshal (professionally known as Cat Power), and features the great Memphis session musicians Teenie Hodges on guitar, Leroy Hodges on bass (Al Green, Hi Rhythm Section), drummer Steve Potts, and more. You Are Free(more) »rank: 6843by: Cat Power
:Album Description:The first album in four years from Chan Marshall, one of the premier female singer-songwriters of our generation. This album explores the world of relationships and fame. Catchy, intense, and beguiling. Matador. 2003. :Chan 'Cat Power' Marshall's performances have become legendary marathons marked by Marshall's shyness and her ability to create moments of fragmented beauty. Five years on from her last collection of original songs, 1998's Moon Pix, Marshall has reined in the silvery brilliance of her shows. The 14 pieces on You Are Free maintain a spontaneity, but, compared with their digressive live incarnations, they've been given focus--a development ... |

The Covers Record(more) »rank: 7682by: Cat Power
: :Chan Marshall devised the Cat Power moniker in order to put a degree of separation between herself and the often-twisted individuals who inhabit her songs. Here, she takes another step back while also taking a step forward. As the album title indicates, these are covers of other people's songs. Yet she sings them with no less intensity than if they were her own. Mick Jagger may have snarled the definitive '(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction,' but Marshall takes a different tack. She removes the chorus and returns it as elegant slow blues. The Velvet Underground's 'I Found a Reason' becomes a ... |

Moon Pix(more) »rank: 27285by: Cat Power
: 's Best of 1998:Chan Marshall, a.k.a. Cat Power, has created an album, Moon Pix, that somehow manages to be both complex and difficult as well as stark and spacious. It's an interesting contradiction mirrored in Marshall's vocal and lyrical talents; her voice soars and croons, sometimes trading melodies with a wandering flute line, while her lyrics are powerful, inscrutable, and fiercely intimate. Two of the Dirty Three evoke a subtle instrumental landscape upon which she wanders, a place less haunting than haunted; specters of lost friends, lost loves, and unrealized dreams abound. There is beauty here, but the kind of beauty ... |

While many novice gamers will enjoy the high-flying, mad-dunking action of the arcade mode, the heart of this game is a serious basketball simulation. With excellent controls, impressive artificial intelligence, and easy play-calling for cuts to the basket, this game should sit well with purists who prefer their mix of coaching and playing in equal doses. A deep create-a-player mode is also available for nurturing an NBA star-in-the-making and powering up his abilities as he performs well over a season. The moves of Los Angeles Laker Kobe Bryant were motion-captured for the movement of the players in this game, so expect fluid athletic motion. --Jeff Young
