Staind is back in a huge way! :Platinum sales. Palatial homes. Fred Durst's cell-phone number. Is nothing enough to lift the heavy air of angst that hangs over Staind? 'I've mastered feeling nothing/ I'm dead inside/ Why don't I care?' sings frontman and walking existential crisis Aaron Lewis by way of response on 'Run Away,' the opening track of ...

:Album Description:Exclusive UK version of their 2000 album includes a bonus disc featuring 4 tracks, 'Never Say Never', 'You're So Vague', 'Who'll Be The Next In Line' and the controversial cd-rom video for the track 'Feel Good Hit Of The Summer' that's been banned. Slimline double jewel case. 2000 release. 's Best of 2000:Call it 'stoner rock' if you must, but the sophomore release from the Queens of the Stone Age moves mosh music into a woozier realm. La Sexorcisto-Devil Music Vol. 1

by: White Zombie

: :The title of White Zombie's first mainstream success promises some good, trashy fun, and boy does this album deliver. White Zombie is not a nihilistic, the-world-is-rotten heavy metal band; on the contrary, one doubts that they're in danger of taking anything too seriously, and the humor is audible in every riff. La Sexorcisto is rife with distorted guitars, snippets of dialogue from horror movies, and songs about fast cars ('Black Sunshine'), loose women ('Grindhouse (A-Go-Go)'), and the generally weird. Don't think about it too hard; sit back, relax, pop a cool one and crank up the stereo until it shakes your ceiling. -- ...

from: Maverick

: :If you're going to pitch a movie about cyber-revolutionaries to plugged-in audiences, you'd best mind your MP3s and BPMs when choosing soundtrack selections. The cynical wireheads who flock to such high-tech conspiracy flicks as Brazil and Hackers are thrillseekers of the highest caliber, and The Matrix soundtrack meets this challenge faster than a speeding cyborg. The opener, Marilyn Manson's anti-consumerism rant 'Rock Is Dead,' paints an aural portrait of urban decay. Ominous sirens permeate the Propellerheads' drum 'n' bass track 'Spybreak!'; mournful piano alternates with hard shiny beats on Rob D's 'Clubbed to Death'; and Meat Beat Manifesto fills 'Prime Audio Soup' with ...

Tools and Hardware Shopper

$12.99

San Francisco filmmaker Ernie Fosselius made the most successful short film of all time in the 1978 Hardware Wars, an inspired, mock-trailer for a nonexistent, cheapo rip-off of Star Wars. It worked like this: instead of Chewbacca, Fosselius offers the Cookie Monster. Instead of Darth Vader's breathy, slightly echoed voice emerging somehow behind that black-mask helmet, we get a villain whose every ranting utterance is so muffled even this film's Princess Leia equivalent beseeches him, "What? I don't understand you." And so on. Part of the joke is that George Lucas's revolutionary special effects are supplanted by common kitchen gizmos--mixers, toasters--that serve as spaceships and weapons sources. The updated special edition contains 20 computer-generated "special defects" that don't--the distributor boasts--at all match Fosselius's earlier version. Um... right on? --Tom Keogh

It's Christmas in the tech noir slum of the post-apocalyptic future, and scrap-metal sculptor Stacey Travis gets a present she'll never forget. Scavenger boyfriend Dylan McDermott returns from the wastelands with the insectoid robot head of a killing machine. In no time it whirs to life and builds itself a gizmo-laden body out of handy appliances to continue its single-minded destruction of the human race, one warm body at a time. Director Richard Stanley, something of a scavenger himself, plunders everything from The Terminator, Blade Runner, and The Road Warriorto Short Circuit (the spidery construct resembles a demonic Number 5) for his violent flesh-vs.-metal survival thriller. Shot in sun-blasted orange and sweltering red, it's a triumph of style, set design, and grunge aesthetics over story, driven by a pounding techno score by Simon Boswell and punctuated by splattering gore. --Sean Axmaker
